Today we woke up at 7:00 am
we made our lunches and left around 9:00 am to meet with Alex G. and we headed
to the Klamath Tribes Research Station, Alex talked to us about how the changes
around the Klamath reservation are affecting the sucker fish that were a food
source to the people of the river, they are also on the endangered species list
and a big reason is there are dams that were built along the rivers and lakes
that were for draining for agricultural uses and it affects the lakes because
of manipulation that messes with the PH levels. The lake water is dirty in
general some of the sucker fish make it through the lake and the ones who don’t
make it through die and when they die they release high ammonia and it mixes
with the PH which is also high so it releases a toxic algae. We went to one of
the springs where the sucker fish are able to live because of how good the
water quality was and then we came back to camp and cooked beef stew and we
also had a visitor come his name was Jeff Mitchell and Jade and her husband and
her kid, Jeff he told us about the story of how the sucker fish came to be, they
ate dinner with us and they left.
